Flight Sergeant R L Saunders RAF

His IGS 1936 with clasp North West Frontier 1936-7 is named to 562299 F/Sgt R L Saunders RAF.  His MiD was gazetted in the London Gazette of 1st January 1943.  His Air Crew Europe was probably awarded to him as an Air Gunner, this by virtue of the fact that his trade was an armourer, (he was a Halton Apprentice) and would have volunteered for Air Crew.  When the attrition rate of air gunners was realised he would have been taken off Air Crew to continue his trade as an armourer.  His only other named medal is his RAF LS&GC Medal which is named to him as a Flight Sergeant.
